Game Overview

What Is No Rest for the Wicked?

No Rest for the Wicked is a visceral action RPG from Moon Studios — the award-winning team behind Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. It blends soulslike precision combat with loot-driven exploration, town building in Sacrament, and a hand-painted dark fantasy world on the plague-ravaged island of Isola Sacra.

You play as a Cerim warrior, a holy fighter sworn to defeat the Pestilence — an ancient plague that corrupts everything it touches. Combat demands deliberate stamina management, parrying, and weapon mastery across 160+ weapons with unique movesets and rune slots.

Platforms & Release Status

The game entered Steam Early Access on April 18, 2024. Major updates include The Breach (April 2025), the Cerim Crucible overhaul, and the Together Co-op Update (January 2026) adding 4-player shared realms. Version 1.0 is scheduled for October 2026 on PC and PlayStation 5, with Xbox Series X|S to follow.

Core Gameplay Loop

Explore Isola Sacra, defeat enemies and bosses, collect randomized loot, upgrade Sacrament vendors, craft gear and meals, and progress the campaign. Death respawns you at the nearest Cerim Whisper with replenished health — but gear durability drops and enemies you killed stay dead. After the campaign, Spilled Blood and Cerim Crucible provide endgame challenges.

Beginner Guide

First Steps in Sacrament

After character creation and the opening sequence, prioritize reaching Sacrament and restoring key building projects. Always have an active construction project running — gather materials while questing. Your first tools (axe, shovel, pickaxe) are essential for harvesting wood, ore, and buried resources.

Tip: Put all attribute points into Health for your first three level-ups. This prevents early one-shots and gives you room to learn combat.

Priority Building Upgrades

Upgrade these Sacrament projects first for the strongest early-game returns:

Early Survival Tips

Keep food stocked at all times — it is your primary healing before specialized runes. Sell duplicate common gear for silver. Slot the Repair Rune from Eleanor to restore durability in the field for 100 Focus. Before entering Nameless Pass, farm materials and upgrade your main weapon. Complete daily bounties from Captain Randolph for free equipment.

Builds & Stats

All 8 Attributes

You gain 3 attribute points per level. Respec is limited until you obtain Fallen Embers later in the game — plan carefully.

Scroll horizontally to see more

AttributeEffect
HealthMaximum HP — invest early for survivability
StaminaAttack, dodge, block capacity
StrengthHeavy weapons, great swords, clubs, hammers
DexterityBows, daggers, rapiers, katanas
IntelligenceStaves, wands, spell damage
FaithHoly damage, certain runes and incantations
FocusRune ability usage and Focus meter fill rate
Equip LoadHeavier armor without slow-rolling

Recommended Early Builds

Strength Bruiser: Levels 1–10: 5 Health, 3 Stamina, 2 Strength. Pair with great swords or clubs. Add Equip Load for heavy armor after level 20.

Dexterity Agile: Levels 1–10: 5 Stamina, 3 Health, 2 Dexterity. Bows and katanas scale well. Light armor keeps dodge fast.

Intelligence Caster: Prioritize Intelligence and Focus. Wands and staves benefit from one-handed shield pairing.

Warning: Do not spread points across multiple damage stats. Commit to one primary scaling attribute for your weapon type.

Equip Load Breakpoints

Equip Load determines dodge roll speed. Normal load gives standard rolls; Heavy load slows you down but allows tankier armor. Calculate exact points needed for your target armor set rather than over-investing.

Weapons Tier List

Meta Tier Rankings (2026)

Over 160 weapons exist, but roughly one-third dominate the current meta. Rankings reflect sustained combat performance, stamina recovery, and scaling — not perfect RNG drops.

TierWeapons
S+Wind of Death (1H Katana), Fetid Club (2H Great Club), Corpse Smeared Blade (2H Great Sword), Cinder & Stone (2H Great Hammer), Falling Sky (2H Staff)

CA Singular Purpose, All is Known, Hunter's Knife, Jackknife, Harvester's Bonesaw, Ogre's Club
DUnholy Hearth, Brothers Keepers, Chipped Daggers, Rogue Messer, Assegai

S+ Tier Highlights

Wind of Death: Fast katana with excellent bleed and Focus generation — top choice for dexterity builds.

Fetid Club: Massive poise damage and stagger; ideal for strength builds that trade hits.

Corpse Smeared Blade: High damage great sword with strong scaling for mid-to-late campaign.

Falling Sky: Best-in-class staff for intelligence builds with ranged spell coverage.

Section 06

Armor & Equipment

Rarity Tiers

Gear comes in Common, Rare, Cursed, Unique, and Masterworks rarities. Higher tiers offer more gem slots, better base stats, and unique enchantment potential. Boss weapons and unique drops are static; most loot is randomized per realm.

Gems & Masterworks

Socket gems into weapons and armor for bonus effects. A Chipped Sapphire adds Cold Damage on weapons but Cold Resistance on leg armor. Filling all gem slots on a piece upgrades it to Masterworks — the highest equipment tier.

Enchantments & Fallen Embers

Equipment supports up to 5 enchantments affecting damage, Focus gain, movement speed, stamina cost, and health recovery. Fallen Embers — previously used for respec — now also add and replace enchantments, making them extremely valuable. The Exalting system in the Crucible permanently boosts gear stats.

Section 07

Items & Crafting

Merchants & Daily Stock

After the Together Co-op Update, merchants are upgradeable and refresh inventory daily. Higher-tier vendors sell better gear, runes, and resources. Check Sacrament and Marin Village shops after each rest cycle.

Scribe Table & Research Papers

Crafting was reworked: Research Papers drop as loot and unlock recipes permanently. Once researched, craft known items at the Scribe Table without re-learning. Prioritize recipes for healing consumables and repair materials.

Key Consumables

Food heals and buffs stats — combat has a hunger limit on simultaneous food buffs. Quick items slot for emergency healing. Rings from Grinnich provide passive bonuses. Storage chests in your house stack items up to 99 per slot.

Section 08

Fast Travel & Whisper Stones

Cerim Whispers act as checkpoints and fast travel nodes. Place a Whisper Stone in your house to teleport home for restocking. Multiple houses can link via Whisper Stones for quick transfers.

Section 09

Quests & NPCs

Main Campaign Flow

The campaign follows your Cerim warrior investigating the Pestilence on Isola Sacra. Key story beats involve King Harol's death, Magnus's succession, Madrigal Seline's church ambitions, and rebel factions. Completing the full campaign unlocks Spilled Blood — a replay mode where Pestilence infects previously safe zones.

Captain Randolph & Bounties

Captain Randolph stands near the central Cerim Whisper in Sacrament. He offers daily and weekly bounties, challenges, and the Entitlements menu for Twitch Drops and pre-order items. Bounties are the best early source of free armor when RNG weapons disappoint.

Notable NPCs

Filmore: Blacksmith repairs and upgrades. Eleanor: Enchantments and runes. Odessa / Irmgard: Marin Woods storyline. Elsa: Unlocks Cerim Crucible access. Seneschal: Crucible vendor for Exalted gear.

Section 10

Multiplayer & Co-op

Together Co-op Update

The January 2026 Together update introduced 4-player online co-op with shared persistent realms. All party members access the same world, progress, vendor upgrades, and world state — even when the host is offline. Cross-play and cross-save between PC and PS5 arrive with 1.0.

Loot Rules & Trading

Loot follows first-come, first-served — whoever picks up an item owns it. Trading between party members is supported and encouraged for gear distribution. Level up and explore independently or together without requiring the host online.

Note: PvP mode is planned for a future update. Current multiplayer focuses on campaign co-op.

Realm Sharing Tips

Create your realm during character creation. Invite up to three friends. Shared construction projects and merchant tiers benefit the entire party. Communicate before opening chests to avoid loot disputes.

Section 11

Codes & Entitlements

Are There Promo Codes?

No. No Rest for the Wicked does not have a redeemable promo code system like many free-to-play or Roblox games. Websites listing "active codes" for this game are misleading. Moon Studios distributes rewards through in-game Entitlements, Twitch Drops, and pre-order bonuses — not text codes.

Warning: There is no official Trello board with redeemable codes. Beware of scam sites asking for account credentials.

How to Claim Entitlements

After reaching Sacrament and completing the Rookery introduction, find Captain Randolph near the central Cerim Whisper. Select "Entitlements" from his dialogue menu. Pre-order Cerim Armor, Twitch Drop rewards, and purchased DLC appear here. You may need to link your Twitch account via the in-game browser flow first.

Console Commands & Scripts

The developer console is disabled in public builds to protect realm save integrity. Keys like ~ or F1 do not open a cheat menu. Avoid third-party trainers that risk save corruption or account bans. Legitimate gameplay tips are covered throughout this wiki.

Section 12

Roadmap & Updates

Official Roadmap (Not Trello)

Moon Studios does not maintain a public Trello board. Official updates are published on Steam News, the developer forum, Discord, and the Steam store page. Search "Trello" often comes from other games — here is the actual Early Access roadmap:

Upcoming 1.0 Features

Version 1.0 brings all 15 regions, campaign conclusion, persistent multiplayer with offline progress sharing, new class and progression system, additional Crucible floors, farming, PvP, and cross-save between PC and PlayStation 5. Price increases are planned at 1.0 launch — Early Access buyers keep access without repurchasing.

Section 13

Crucible & Endgame

Cerim Crucible Overview

The Cerim Crucible is a repeatable roguelite dungeon unlocked after completing "Spoken & Unspoken" with Elsa in Sacrament. Chambers have tripled since the revamp, featuring randomized layouts, the Gloam enemy faction, and a new art theme.

Echoes System

Enemies drop Traces — spend them to activate Echoes (200+ available). Each run offers 4 Echo choices with effects on attack speed, damage, defense, and more. Buffs persist only for the current run. Reroll options cost additional Traces.

Spilled Blood Campaign

After completing the main campaign, Spilled Blood unlocks. Pestilence infects any zone on Isola Sacra. Reduce the spread meter by killing infected enemies, then defeat the Plague Boss variant to cleanse the area. Torn Resources drop in infected zones — burn at fires to increase difficulty and loot quality.

Section 14

Combat Mechanics

Stamina, Focus & Poise

Every attack, dodge, block, and parry consumes stamina. Empty stamina leaves you vulnerable. Focus builds during combat and powers rune abilities. Shields now use Poise and Stagger instead of draining stamina — pair shields with one-handed weapons for balanced defense.

Durability & Death Penalty

All gear has durability that depletes through use and death. Zero durability makes items unequippable until repaired at Filmore's Smithy or via the Repair Rune (100 Focus). Death respawns you at the nearest Whisper with full health but reduced gear durability. Enemies killed stay dead; injured enemies do not heal.

Status Effects

Combat includes Freeze & Shatter, fire explosions, Rip & Tear on heavy weapons, and lightning infusions. Elemental synergies define current meta builds alongside lifesteal and frost-shatter combos.

Section 15

Farming & Sacrament

Town Rebuilding

Sacrament restores through building projects. Speed construction by donating food, materials, and ingredients to active projects. Each project requires different contributions. Rebuilt town attracts more vendors and services.

Life Skills

Purchase and decorate a house in Sacrament. Fish on shores, till land, harvest crops, and cook meals that heal and boost stats. Food cooldown was replaced with a combat hunger limit — plan buffs strategically. Whisper Stones in your home enable fast travel restocking.

Resource Gathering

Chop trees, mine ore veins, and dig every mound for crafting materials. Ground pickups are fixed per realm; enemy and chest drops are randomized. Animal bones from Marin Village vendors simplify weapon upgrades without hunting.
